Assessment | The LAP is needed to determine the pressure and the thereto related quantity. One can say that industry will apply standardized cylinders (and other storage possibilities) which itself try to fulfil the requirements regarding investment/cost optimum taking the transportation restrictions – given by the ADR – into account .(in other words, they try to find a ratio of diameter to length which ensures the lowest possible amount of material plus fabrication of the material – taking handling and transportation restrictions – if any – into account. Taking the 500 bar technology of Linde as a basis, one can see that higher payloads are envisaged and supportive to the economic optimisation. If case one intends to use non standardised cylinders the investments for the equipment will increase, the possible max. transportation quantity might decrease (road transport) and at the same time handling will be impeded, subsequently handling and transportation costs will increase. So the development of a technology which enables higher payloads will be a success if becomes the “new” standard |
